High-Speed Railscan
A new, state-of-the-art train scanning complex for Dutch customs at the Maasvlakte. ZÜBLIN Nederland delivered the complex on a turnkey basis, making the project renowned as the fastest train scanning facility in the world.
This project involves the construction of a new train scanner comprising a bunker and walls. The X-ray scanning facility also includes a tower and a tunnel. The project is situated on the site near Maasvlakte I, between the Europaweg (N15) and the Beerweg in Rotterdam. The purpose of the scanner is to inspect containers being exported to the Port of Rotterdam. The new project enables Dutch customs to carry out its inspections more quickly and efficiently.
This project was designed by the Central Technical Office of STRABAG Belgium in Antwerp. ZÜBLIN Nederland was responsible for the turnkey completion, including the technical installations. During construction, 14 piles, 335 m³ of concrete, 990 m² of formwork and 22,000 kg of steel were used. Advanced technology makes it possible to capture high-quality images of trains travelling through the scanner at a speed of 60 kilometres per hour. As a result, the project proudly bears the nickname ‘the world’s fastest train scanner’.
