Züblin Nederland BV, in collaboration with Algemene Aannemingen Van Laere NV, built the Jaarbeurs mega-cinema in Utrecht. The project involves the construction of one of the largest cinema complexes in the Netherlands, comprising 14 screens and a total of 3,500 seats. The largest auditorium can accommodate more than 600 people. In addition to the ground-floor entrance, there are dining facilities covering an area of 2,000 m². All auditoriums are equipped with state-of-the-art digital projection and sound technology.

The four-storey building has a steel frame and features 1,700 metres of acoustic decoupling. Acoustic plasterboard walls were installed in the auditoriums. The structure stands on ground-displacing pile foundations with acoustic support for the hollow-core slabs in the auditoriums. The tiered seating is made of timber. The mega-cinema contains 1,600 tonnes of steel, 20,000 m² of hollow-core slabs, 2,500 m³ of concrete and 110 tonnes of reinforcement.

A total of 5,600 m² of soil was excavated. The mega-cinema was built in the centre of Utrecht, close to the Jaarbeurs event centre and the central station. The logistical implications of this meant extra work for the construction team, but thanks to good planning and constructive cooperation, the build was successfully completed to the satisfaction of all parties.
