Bridge over the Waal
A new concrete cable-stayed bridge that improves traffic flow on the crucial Ewijk–Valburg motorway section.
On behalf of Rijkswaterstaat, ZÜBLIN Nederland, as a partner of Bouwcombinatie Waalkoppel v.o.f., helped to carry out the widening of the A50 between the Ewijk junction and Valburg from 2x2 to 2x4 lanes. A key part of the project was the construction of a new concrete cable-stayed bridge over the River Waal.

- Construction methods: sliding formwork method & free-form construction method
The project also included new engineering structures at both junctions, the refurbishment of existing engineering structures, road surfacing works, temporary traffic measures and a new dynamic traffic management system (DVM).
All the works took place on, over and beneath a heavily used motorway, railway line and Class VIc waterway, which made the project particularly challenging from both a technical and organisational perspective.
