Appointment of a new CEO

STRABAG, the listed European construction group, has a new CEO: Stefan Kratochwill was appointed to this position today by the Supervisory Board with immediate effect. Kratochwill studied industrial engineering and mechanical engineering at the Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien). In 2003, he joined the STRABAG Group as an intern. His first assignments took him to South-Eastern Europe, where he established the organisational structures of the Group’s construction machinery subsidiary in Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia and Montenegro. He subsequently headed up the Group’s European operations in the field of tracked construction machinery until 2017, when he was appointed Central Division Head and Managing Director of the construction machinery subsidiary STRABAG BMTI GmbH, with responsibility for
3,000 employees worldwide.

Response from the Supervisory Board

Kerstin Gelbmann, Chair of the Supervisory Board of STRABAG SE: “Stefan Kratochwill not only has a long-standing career with the Group, but has also played a key role in shaping the company’s new strategy through his multifaceted role as head of BMTI. By driving the transition from construction machinery and vehicles to new technologies, he is utilising one of the most important tools for achieving climate neutrality. At the same time, he is promoting the further standardisation and digitalisation of construction processes, something that is urgently needed given the shortage of skilled workers in the sector. Stefan Kratochwill, together with his colleagues on the Executive Board and the Supervisory Board, will seamlessly and successfully continue to implement STRABAG’s Strategy 2030.”

  • To achieve our corporate goal of becoming climate-neutral by 2040, we need innovation and new technologies. STRABAG is a pioneer when it comes to driving forward precisely these technological leaps in collaboration with our partners. I am convinced that technological progress will give us an even stronger market position in line with our financial objectives. The tragic loss of Klemens Haselsteiner has affected us all deeply. It is a personal priority and a privilege for me to carry on his vision for STRABAG. Klemens saw STRABAG as his extended family. Having started as an intern, I myself have grown up within this family. My promise – not only to our external stakeholders but above all to our employees – is that together we will continue on the path towards a sustainable future.
