We cannot predict the future, but we can shape it
Great sadness
Vienna, 18 January – It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our CEO. Klemens Haselsteiner passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday 17 January 2025. Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family and loved ones.
Career and significance for STRABAG
Klemens Haselsteiner, born in Klagenfurt, has been CEO of STRABAG SE since 2023. He has helped shape our company in various roles since joining in 2011 and has played a key role in developing STRABAG into one of Europe’s leading groups in the field of construction technology.
Vision, transformation and sustainability
Klemens Haselsteiner’s intuition for future trends has contributed significantly to STRABAG’s strategic reorientation. With “Work On Progress”, he initiated one of the company’s most comprehensive transformation processes and set the course for greater sustainability, increased innovation capacity and resilience at STRABAG. His drive for the digitalisation of the construction sector and the ecological transformation has had an impact far beyond the company.
Klemens Haselsteiner formulated the vision for STRABAG to become the leading force in building a better future. He lived by this vision and worked tirelessly alongside the Executive Board and all his colleagues to develop it further. He was always firmly convinced that a company like STRABAG had to take on more responsibility. And to do more for people, the planet and progress. Under his leadership, STRABAG has therefore, for the first time in the company’s history, set itself binding climate targets. So that future generations, too, can have a liveable future.
People-centred leadership
Alongside his entrepreneurial vision, Klemens Haselsteiner always kept his feet on the ground. His philosophy was to prove himself anew every day and to show that construction could be done better – particularly in practice. Simply wanting to do things differently in theory was not enough for him. That is why he sought direct dialogue with his colleagues. For him, there were no distinctions – every colleague was equally important and valuable, whether in the office or on the building site. Haselsteiner’s aim was to take away a suggestion from every discussion, from every conversation, and to improve something.
Klemens Haselsteiner didn’t just want to change things. He did it. He shaped STRABAG. He inspired our industry. As a visionary, an inspirer, a go-getter. But above all: as a human being. Today, STRABAG is just as strong economically and structurally as it was yesterday. We have a clear vision for the future. For this, we are infinitely grateful to Klemens Haselsteiner.
We will always remember him fondly and, together with all 86,000 colleagues around the world, we will seamlessly continue on the course he charted in his spirit.
