Ringweg Zuid in Groningen – Groningen is celebrating!
Festive opening weekend
Over the weekend of 31 August and 1 September, Groningen was in celebration mode!! Thousands of Groningen residents and other interested members of the public turned out for the Grand Opening of the 14 km-long southern ring road and the Julianaplein junction. Barry Madlener, Minister for Infrastructure and Water Management, officially opened the project. He was accompanied by Joost van de Beek, project director of Aanpak Ring Zuid.
The implementation of this major project took years and was a real feat for the Herepoort Consortium (Max Bögl Nederland B.V., ZÜBLIN Nederland, Koninklijke Oosterhof Holman,Koninklijke Sjouke Dijkstra and Roelofs).
Improved traffic flow, safety and quality of life
But the result is certainly impressive! The new southern ring road and the junction are a real milestone for Groningen! This project not only ensures improved traffic flow and better connectivity between the city and the wider region, but also enhances road safety. Furthermore, the fact that part of the road runs underground near the Zuiderplantsoen enhances the quality of life.
A weekend full of experiences
The atmosphere was absolutely brilliant during the Opening Weekend! The many visitors clearly enjoyed the festivities and the chance to use the ring road. For the time being, only the main road network has been opened to traffic. The underlying road network and the Esperano Tunnel will not be ready until May 2025. By then, a beautiful park will also have been created on the site of the Zuiderplantsoen.
ZÜBLIN is a visible presence
Our impressive ZÜBLIN stand attracted a lot of attention during the opening weekend. Our ZÜBLIN robot dog, in particular, drew enthusiastic reactions from young and old alike. People were keen to see our technological innovation in action. It was fantastic to see just how engaged and enthusiastic all the visitors were. We look back with pride on a very successful weekend!
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our business partners for their constructive collaboration over the past few years, and we look forward to continuing to work with them in a pleasant manner in the coming months.
