ODE Amsterdam completed
Brief and design
Züblin was awarded the contract, via BPD Ontwikkeling BV, to construct a new office and residential building on Oosterdokseiland (ODE) in the centre of Amsterdam. The international architectural firm UNStudio has created a prestigious and innovative design for the building, which covers 102,000 m² of gross floor area and comprises 12 above-ground and 2 underground storeys.
Technical and logistical challenges
This large-scale project presented many challenges: a technically complex structure, large spans in the steelwork and V-shaped columns. For example, within the 10-storey atrium there is a steel walkway with a 25-metre span. The car park had to be taken into account, and its entrance had to remain in use during construction; there was a logistically challenging location in the busy city centre with many cyclists and pedestrians; stakeholders in the surrounding area; and one side of the building borders the railway area.
Furthermore, upon completion, the new office and apartment block was awarded the BREEAM Very Good rating.
A fantastic result of which we are very proud!
